The island green 17th hole at Sawgrass is one of the world’s iconic par threes and, wouldn’t you know it, man of the moment Sergio Garcia only went and holed his tee shot there in the first round of the Players Championship on Thursday to keep his month-long Masters celebration in full swing.

If truth be told, up to that point it was looking like a rude awakening to life in the green jacket for the charismatic Spaniard. He had four-putted one hole during a horrific opening at the Players Championship that left him four over par after eight holes.

Sometimes it takes only one shot to change everything and here that was certainly the case on the hole where he has suffered both agony and joy in the past. It was there where he won this title in a play-off in 2008; where he put two balls in the water to toss away $500,000 as well as any chance of the title in 2013.
