There are a lot of emotions that accompany this video. On the one hand, there’s happiness; the swell of pride you feel anytime you watch an Olympian receive a medal. And on the other, there’s disappointment that Kelly Sotherton had to find out this way, nine years later than she was supposed to.
Sotherton, who has been retired for five years, received the retroactive upgrade to bronze in the 2008 heptathlon contest after Russian Tatyana Chernov tested positive for steroids and was stripped of the medal. It’s the second time in five months she’s received a medal following retroactive upgrade, the BBC reports.
